Has anyone ever declined an invitation to visiting your home because they struggle to navigate a step or a set of stairs into your home? You may think not, but the probability is high that it has happened. People will not say, "No I don't want to come over for dinner because I struggle with your front steps or I do not want to have to ask for help to get into your house." They will come up with other reasons why they are unable to come over. No one likes to admit that they have declining vision, balance, hearing, reaction time, strength, and/or endurance. This is especially true if it threatens or questions their ability to live and function Independently. Some people feel that they are a burden to others if they require some form of assistance.
Visitability is making a home a place all people can visit. It should not matter if they are tall, small, young, elderly, ambulatory, or using a wheelchair. Allowing people to visit your home without assistance leaves their sense of dignity intact.
We are building and modifying homes so that the ground level with a bathroom is accessible to all without any additional equipment or assistance.
